What does Google really think about your linking methods?
Published on the 11/05/2007
Search_Rankings_News Inbound links to a website have always been an influencing factor used to determine your websites search engine ranking position.
Ethical link building can make the difference between well optimized competing websites in generating sales and leads. Over the years Search Rankings has observed, reviewed and tested numerous techniques used by many to achieve high rankings in a short period of time. Some of these include;

Paid links
Paid links won’t get you penalised with Google’s new algorithm change but they will not carry enough strength in getting you to the top of the search engine rankings. In the past, paid links have offered short term gains by generating potential gateways to generating traffic. However as the Google and other search engines algorithms continue to evolve this technique has lost its impact and importance.

Hidden Links
Google discourages the use of links that are the same color as the background and links that are invisible or are too small. These are considered as spam and unethical. Any content that is not visible by the end user/ visitor is classified as unethical. This will only result in short term gains if any, potentially resulting in your website being banned or removed from search results.

Doorway pages
These are single page websites that are created for the sole purpose of directing traffic to your website. They may have misleading content but link back to your website. These should be avoided at all cost.

Although these unethical search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques have yielded quick results in the past, the Google algorithm has evolved to the point where artificial influences to search results are no longer tolerated.
